AINSLEY JOHNSTONE
FOUNDER

I have always been fascinated by the scientific, emotional, and global aspects of pregnancy and birth. It saddens me that mothers in developing areas are disproportionately dying from preventable causes. I know that advancing the field of maternal health is my true passion, and I hope that in my future career, I can continue to advocate for mothers and their babies during this vulnerable time in their lives.

SARAH CHAPMAN
PRESIDENT 2023-2024

4th Year Health Sciences

Through personal research and my education, learning about the inequities experienced by mothers and children around the world was heartbreaking. So frequently these inequities are not talked about, as they are less prevalent in more developed countries, like Canada. I joined Save the Mothers as I am passionate about advocating for mothers and their children, and STM’s mission of reducing deaths from preventable causes.

PARTH KHATANA
VICE PRESIDENT OF CLUB AFFAIRS

4th Year Life Sciences

Maternal health care has always been a passion of mine and being apart of this club allows me to delve deeper into maternal health care. This club will let me advocate for maternal health to improve health for mothers and infants in countries around the world!!

I joined Save the mothers to advocate for holistic maternal health on the community and global scale. My passion for maternal and reproductive health empowers me to educate students in and around Queens campus about current and varying challenges that mothers face in developing and developed countries. My hope for this year is to develop creative fundraising initiatives and facilitate a strong learning environment for our club members.

CATHERINE JIANG
COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING DIRECTOR

4th Year Health Sciences

I joined Save the Mothers because I am passionate about maternal health. There is a huge level of discrepancy in maternal care around the world. I believe every mother deserves accessible and proper healthcare, while every child deserves to start their life healthy. I am eager to continue learning more about this topic and advocating for maternal health in any way possible.

ERIN KWAK
EVENTS DIRECTOR

4th Year Health Sciences

As I have been increasingly exposed to the global and public health paradigm in my undergraduate years, I gained a better understanding of the social and environmental factors that cause mothers in developing countries to experience fatal but preventable complications. I hope to learn more about this global disparity through Save the Mothers and to further my contribution in reducing barriers that mothers face in accessing health.
